Carlsbad Rotary Clubs host Oktober-feast
The Rotary Clubs of Carlsbad have partnered with nine local restaurants to create a 31-day celebration starting Thursday titled, Rotary Clubs of Carlsbad Oktober-feast, which will run in place of the 38th annual oneday celebration of Oktoberfest. The restaurants will offer a 15 percent discount on the food portion of dine-in or takeout orders through Oct. 31. Participants include The Landings, Vigilucci’s Cucina Italiana, Vigilucci’s Seafood & Steakhouse, Tin Leaf Kitchen, Gregorio’s Italian Restaurant, Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant, Señor Grubby’s, and Tommy V’s along with Tip Top Meats. ‘How to Be a Hero’ topic of lecture
A virtual Good Life lecture on “How to Be a Hero” led by Karin Muller is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, hosted by the Carlsbad Library. Muller went on a three-year quest to find and film everyday heroes and their stories. Muller has created Pbs/national Geographic documentaries about her travels. Senior center hosts investment lecture
The Carlsbad Senior Center hosts a free online investment education lecture from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Monday on Top Morningstar Articles & Other Special Investing Topics, with a focus on Morningstar’s top 36 mutual funds of 2020. The presenter, Shelley Murasko, shows how to use Morningstar’s mutual fund analyses. ‘Flocktober’ event features baby chicks
San Diego-area homesteaders and the Hawthorne Country Store hold the 17th Annual Chick Days, Friday to Oct. 4. The family-friendly “Flocktober” celebration will host more than 50 varieties of baby poultry, and will practice COVID safety and social-distancing measures. The event is 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday in Fallbrook; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday in Escondido, and 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in Santee. Artwork sought for open show
The Escondido Art Association is slated to open the Artists Gallery at 121 Grand Ave. for its October show, titled “Open Show, which means anything goes.” Takein of art will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 4 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 5. Curbside take-in will be available for those who have filled out their entry forms. The gallery will adhere to strict enforcement of COVID-19 protocols. The show will run through Oct. 30 and the pickup dates for artwork are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 31 and 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 2. Brother Benno’s Auxiliary Annual Golf Tournament is a “Pay It Forward” Golf Fundraiser instead of “community play” event this year. Library runs panel discussion online
The Oceanside Public Library and Japanese American Historical Society of San Diego present an online panel discussion about this year’s “One Book, One San Diego” selection titled “They Called Us Enemy,” a graphic novel by George Takei, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rancho Santa Fe Senior Center presents the 6th Annual Healthy Aging Conference beginning Thursday and continuing through Dec. 31 online. SOLANA BEACH Center helps residents apply for citizenship
The North County Immigration & Citizenship Center at 120 Stevens Ave. is urging legal permanent residents to apply now for citizenship because the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will raise fees significantly as of Friday for many legal immigration applications, including naturalization. The nonprofit center, founded to help local immigrants navigate the way to U.S. citizenship, provides free legal services to most applicants. The bilingual, Justice Departmentcertified representatives help residents through the process, from filing the application to preparing for the interview.
