Pilot makes effort to help Bills snap two-game losing skid

- COMPILED BY BOYCE GARRISON

We’re used to seeing members of the Bills Mafia take to the sky only to fall through tailgate tables. But one took to the sky — literally — to display his fandom, writes Jake Russell of The Washington Post.

After a 4-0 start, the Buffalo Bills are in the midst of a two-game skid ahead of today’s Week 7 matchup with the 0-6 New York Jets. In an effort to change his team’s fortunes — as if playing the floundering Jets wasn’t enough — pilot Mike Jeswald boarded his 54-year-old single-engine Piper PA-32-260 on Friday and drew the Bills logo on his flight path.

“Went up to clear all the bad juju from the last two games to make sure we are good for the Jets,” Jeswald wrote on Facebook. “To rub salt in the Jets’ wounds, I did it with an airplane.

“The winds were brutal (today) but I think it managed to turn out great! At least I could draw the Bills logo better with a flight path than Josh Allen can with a marker!”

The dig at the third-year QB is in reference to a design Allen concocted two years ago when he was given 60 seconds to draw his team’s logo along with fellow 2018 Bills rookies. Allen’s insignia resembled a potato with legs rather than a charging buffalo and T-shirts with the logo are available if one scours the Internet hard enough.

Trivia question

On this date in 1987, Frank Viola, making his third start of the World Series and pitching on three days’ rest in Game 7, went eight innings, allowing two runs in a 4-2 Twins victory over the Cardinals. Who earned the save?

They said it

• From Dwight Perry of The Seattle Times: “Cowboys fans are the NFL’S biggest complainers, according to a survey of 5,000 fans nationwide by mibets.com. ‘Hosed again!’ moaned Patriots fans after being rated only second-most obnoxious.”

• From Giants coach Joe Judge, to the New York Post, anticipating the reception he’d get from Eagles fans in his native Philadelphia: “I’ll probably wear a helmet ... my in-laws are already buying batteries.”

Trivia answer

Jeff Reardon earned his only save in the series in Game 7.
