ONE SOLUTION TO ONE ISSUE WILL NOT FIX EVERYTHING. DO BETTER.

- BY SHARON LARIOS

There are so many things our future leaders can do to make our city better, especially during these unpredictable times. I can give you a different answer each day because each day there are new problems.

When the pandemic hit, it affected my family to the point where we could no longer afford to live in San Diego. Sitting here reflecting on this question, now pregnant with twins, in another state, I do wonder what kind of city San Diego will be when we go back to visit.

Will my family and friends still be able to afford living in Linda Vista, or will they be out-priced? Will I be able to take my twins skating at Skateworld? Will the parks be safe enough to let my kids run wild? Will more lives of our youth be lost because of lack of funding and resources? Each community has its own specific needs, its own problems to be fixed, and depending on who you ask and where you ask, you will get a different answer each time. The needs in Allied Gardens are different than the needs of Linda Vista.

I want our future councilmember to remember that you serve us. You are serving the working, homeless residents, immigrants, seniors, students and the youth that live in your district. Sometimes we don’t have time to civically engage in our local community politics like we would like, but that does not mean we do not exist or do not matter. Please reach out and work on outreach efforts to include all voices from all walks
