ENCINITAS Thrift shop kicks off series of Friday sales
The Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito will hold three separate Black Friday sales, spaced out among three Fridays in response to the pandemic, with 50 percent off beginning Friday and continuing Nov. 20 and 27 at Fabulous Finds thrift shop, 1542 Encinitas Blvd. Hours will be from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with up to 10 shoppers at one time allowed in the shop. ESCONDIDO Light up a Life ceremony next week
Light Up a Life, a candlelighting ceremony celebrating the memory of loved ones, is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 15 hosted by The Elizabeth Hospice, with social distancing and face masks required. Attendees will stroll through a lit pathway of luminaria. Highlights include music, inspirational messages and candle lighting at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, 340 N. Hospice offers support group for caregivers
The Elizabeth Hospice offers a new support group to provide adult family and friend caregivers with an opportunity to meet with others who are in a similar situation, learn caregiving tips and reduce their feelings of isolation. Ellen Page featured in center’s virtual gala
The North County LGBTQ+ Resource Center will stream its free virtual gala, “Autumn of Abundance,” from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday. Special guest appearances include “Rupaul’s Drag Race” star Chad Michaels and actor Ellen Page. The center hopes to raise money to keep its essential services running throughout the pandemic, which include support groups for youths, seniors, military service members, HIV/AIDS testing and prevention, counseling, civil rights advocacy, classes, and workgroups. The city of Oceanside is seeking nominees for the 2021 Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award. The annual award recognizes residents of the city who have made a significant contribution of time to improve community life, promote positive community development and enhance the lives of residents. Veterans group seeks turkey donations

Native American heritage program
A virtual presentation on “The Acorn Maiden Story” by the Rincon Youth Storytellers is at 1 p.m. Saturday hosted by the Oceanside Library. The story revolves around three Acorn Maidens from the Spirit World sent to Earth by the Creator to become food for the people. The Foundation for Senior Wellbeing holds a virtual Festival of Trees from 10 to 11 a.m. Nov. 21 with holiday entertainment, opportunity drawing and silent auction featuring custom-crafted Christmas trees along with other holiday gifts, decorations and treats. VISTA Lions Club holds virtual Novemberfest
The Amigos De Vista Lions Club is holding a virtual Novemberfest fundraiser seeking donations from the public since the club is not hosting its usual Novemberfest at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens because of COVID restrictions. For each $25 donated, a raffle ticket will be earned, and in early December the club will hold the raffle. Prizes will include beer/ wine/mead tastings and lunch or dinner vouchers. Library holds flu shot clinics for ages 9, up
The Vista Library is hosting two free flu shot clinics with Palomar Health from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday and 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 7. Palomar Health nurses will provide the regular influenza vaccine by injection to children and adults 9 and older. The f lu shot clinics will take place outside the library, with social-distancing measures in place. Masks or facial coverings are required.
