Ronnie Rivers scored four touchdowns, Chris Gaston made two interceptions and Fresno State defeated UNLV 40-27 on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Rivers rushed for 133 yards and three scores on 19 carries and caught six passes for a career-high 99 yards and another score. He has scored in 11 consecutive games.

Rivers' 10-yard scoring run on the first play of the fourth quarter snapped a 2727 tie and an interception by Gaston led to Cesar Silva's field goal and a 37-27 lead. Jake Haener's 35-yard run led to another Silva field goal with under two minutes remaining. Another Gaston interception ended UNLV'S hopes.

Rivers' 16-yard TD run early in the third quarter gave the Bulldogs a 27-17 lead but the Rebels (0-3, 0-3 Mountain West) got a field goal from Daniel Gutierrez and Max Gilliam's 71-yard TD run to tie it.

Haener passed for 164 yards and a score and ran for 79 yards plus a touchdown for the Bulldogs (2-1, 2-1).

Attendance was limited to 2,000 at 65,000-seat Allegiant Stadium.

No. 9 BYU 51, No. 21 Boise State 17: BYU hasn't had many chances this season to prove that it's deserving of its lofty ranking. On Friday night, the Cougars took full advantage of their first game against a ranked team.

And it was nothing short of impressive.

Zach Wilson threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns and Tyler Allgeier rushed for 123 yards and a pair of scores as BYU (8-0) beat Boise State (2-1) on the road for the first time in six tries. The Cougars are off to their best start since 2001 when they started 12-0. It's also the first time in school history BYU has scored 50 points or more against a ranked opponent.

Wilson, who originally committed to Boise State before signing with BYU, completed 21-of-27 passes and threw TDS of 5 and 20 yards. He also found the end zone on a 4-yard run.

The projected firstround NFL Draft pick said he doesn't begrudge anyone for questioning how good of a team BYU is during these unprecedented times.

“People still doubted us, but I don't blame them for that,” Wilson said. “It's hard to tell how good we are with how our season has switched up, but each week is an opportunity for us to prove ourselves.

“(This win) doesn't mean anything unless we keep winning.”

Meanwhile, Boise State suffered its worst loss since a 64-19 rout by rival Idaho in 1996, the Broncos' first year as an FBS program.
