Lamb’s Players Theatre troupe cooks up a tasty fundraiser

-

Like many arts organizations, Lamb’s Players Theatre has been shuttered since the beginning of the pandemic in March with no end in sight. This year was to be a celebration of the nonprofit organization’s golden anniversary, but instead it has turned into a fight for survival.

“We have never before stopped telling one live story after another,” said Robert Smyth, producing artistic director of the Coronado-based theater company.

“So, during this time, we’ve been looking for ways to say connected. Ways to be creative. And to raise funds to keep Lamb’s alive. One brilliant idea came from associate artist Omri Schein – to put together a cookbook as a fundraiser for the theatre,” he said in a statement.

“Lamb’s Players Theatre Cookbook” is filled with favorite recipes from Lamb’s company members and associated artists. Included are appetizers, main dishes and desserts ranging from chili and Italian wedding soup for starters to Irish tacos, short ribs and Creole red beans for the entrees. Dessert items include Guinness, Baileys and Jameson cupcakes and smoked, salted caramel apple pie.

The company has a long tradition of sharing a meal between the Saturday matinee and the evening performance. “It’s the sharing of food that builds a place of camaraderie and friendship. A place to share stories and blessings,” Smyth said.

The cookbook is available on the Lamb’s website, at lambsplayers.org/cookbook. The cost is $45 and includes shipping.
