PEDESTRIAN STRUCK, KILLED BY VEHICLE WHILE CROSSING STREET IN LAKESIDE

A pedestrian was struck by a SUV and killed Friday evening in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly collision happened about 5:45 p.m. on Woodside Avenue between Winter Gardens Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, according to a Highway Patrol incident log.

A 2012 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling east on Woodside when the pedestrian walked into the street outside of a crosswalk and directly into the vehicle’s path, a CHP official said.

Firefighte­rs worked to save the victim’s life, but the person died at the scene, according to the CHP. His name was not released.

Wrong-way driver dies after collision with car

A wrong-way driver was fatally injured Friday night in a head-on crash near Mission Trails Regional Park, police said.

It happened about 6 p.m. on Mission Gorge Road, east of Golfcrest Drive, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

That’s where a 59-yearold man in a 1984 Toyota pickup was heading northeast toward Santee when his truck was struck head on by a 2003 four-door Acura sedan driving on the wrong side of the road, Heims said.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles for about 30 minutes as fire crews worked to extricate them, according to the San Diego Fire-rescue Department. Medics airlifted one of the men to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, while the other was taken by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest.

The Acura’s driver, a man in his 50s, died from his injuries at the hospital, Heims said. His name was not released.

The driver of the pickup sustained non-life-threatenin­g injuries that included multiple facial fractures, Heims said.

Motorcycli­st dies in crash into building

A motorcycli­st was fatally injured Friday afternoon when he crashed into a building in Carlsbad near the city’s Safety and Service Center, police said.

It happened about 3:15 p.m. as the rider, a 29-yearold Encinitas man, was headed west on Faraday Avenue near Palmer Way, according to Carlsbad police Sgt. Chris Karches.

For unknown reasons, he lost control of his Kawasaki motorcycle and crashed into a building, Karches said. The man was unconsciou­s when emergency crews arrived, and he died at the scene.

His name was not released.

Investigat­ors do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
