An 18-year-old San Diego man was arrested this week, accused in a fatal shooting during a Snapchat-arranged sale that when awry and turned into an armed robbery in the Midway District last week, police said Friday.

Angel Garcia remained jailed without bail Friday, two days after his arrest on suspicion of murder in the shooting death of Eduardo Salguero, also an 18-yearold San Diego resident.

He is also accused of attempted murder of the victim’s companion. It’s not clear when Garcia will be arraigned. COVID-19 concerns have delayed San Diego Superior Court hearings.

About 6:15 p.m. Nov. 25, several people called 911 after people heard gunfire and saw a gray Acura crash into a retaining wall behind businesses on Midway Drive near Kemper Street, San Diego police homicide Lt. Matt Dobbs said in a news release.

Police found Salguero unconscious behind the wheel of the Acura. He had been shot several times. Salguero was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators soon learned that Salguero and a friend went to a site behind strip mall shopping center to buy something in a deal arranged over Snapchat. Police declined to say what was Salguero was there to buy.

When Salguero arrived, two men got into his car. One pulled out a gun and the transaction devolved into a robbery, Dobbs said.

Multiple shots were fired inside the car. The Acura crashed into a wall.

The two men in their 20s, wearing dark clothes, took off on foot. Dobb said investigators believe the two men “sustained significant head, leg and arm injuries during the collision.”
