ESCONDIDO — Richard Jackson Waller was born in Dodson, La., November 14, 1928. He died at age 92 in Fountain Valley, Calif. on December 9, 2020, following a lingering illness.

Jack and his mother, Ethel Taylor Waller, moved from Dodson, La., to Pacific Beach in 1941 where he attended La Jolla High School, worked as a “soda jerk” at Academy Drug, and learned pharmacy skills that would later serve him in the Army. Jack was drafted during the Korean

War, and because of his work at the drugstore, he was trained in pharmacy at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He

completed his service at Fort Ord, Calif. in 1952.

Jack married Chloe Ann Kerr, raised three children, and made homes in Pacific Beach, Clairemont and Escondido, Calif. He worked as manager of telecommunication services for General Dynamics/convair until 1973. Later, he worked for Robert Lee at Escondido Lumber until retiring in 1990.

Jack and Chloe enjoyed travel and spending time with family. Jack was a longtime usher at Emanuel Faith Church,

Escondido, and member of Optimist Club. His favorite hobby was running G-gauge trains in the yard and getting together with the “Breakfast Club” boys. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Otis and sister Juanita. Jack is survived by his children Vicki, Rick and Jill Waller and their spouses and families. His ashes will be placed alongside his beloved wife, Chloe, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Escondido.
