CLASSICAL MUSIC
J.S. Bach’s “Welcome to Leipzig,” a church cantata first performed in 1723, is the featured work and the second release in Bach Collegium San Diego’s archival REDISCOVER series. The 28-minute-long performance directed by Bach Collegium’s Ruben Valenzuela is a recording of the organization’s 2016 season opener.
This is a studied and often uplifting performance that unfolded inside the beautiful Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cardiff. Pay attention before the music begins: Valenzuela provides interesting context about the program’s two Bach works.
