Pollution in our rivers needs to be addressed

Re “Maybe now we’ll focus on Tijuana sewage problem” (Feb. 17): While we can all agree that limiting the sewage that comes from Tijuana and pollutes our beaches is a major concern, how about focusing on our own problems?

The Sweetwater River, between Chula Vista and National City, is home to a major homeless encampment that severely pollutes our waterways. Trash, debris, fecal matter, anything you can think of is dumped into this waterway and ends up in San Diego Bay. How about focusing on this? How can we solve Tijuana’s problems when our own backyard is a mess? Damian Hiley Chula Vista
