The stadium loses its primary tenant when the Chargers announce they are moving to Los Angeles, severing the franchise’s 56-year relationship with San Diego.

San Diego County Credit Union purchases naming rights to the stadium after Qualcomm’s 20-year deal expires. In February 2019, the contract was extended through December 2020.

San Diegans vote in favor of Measure G with 54 percent, endorsing a plan to sell the 166-acre site to San Diego State for development that will include a 35,000-seat stadium, research and innovation district, 4,900 housing units, a 400-room hotel and a 34-acre river park. Measure E, a similar proposal by a group known as Soccercity, is rejected after receiving less than 33 percent of the vote.
