SAN DIEGO —

Judy Connell passed away on February 18, 2021, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Judy and her husband Marshal celebrated 56 years of marriage this past September. Judy was visited the day before her passing by her pastor and an elder from our church, First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside. Marshal was her faithful main caregiver for many months assisted by professional caregivers, including hospice.

Judy lived and worked in the San Jose area for almost 50 years. After welcoming their children, Charles, and Kathleen, into their family in the late 1960s, Judy turned to her work career. Judy graduated from San Jose State in 1969, and she worked mostly as a temp in the business world.

She later found her true calling as a teacher of English as a second language. Judy graduated from the University of San Francisco with a master’s degree in education. She then found employment at Milpitas Adult Education. She made many friends with other teachers and was appointed head teacher early in her career.

During Judy’s later years she joined the China prayer group, which led to her interest in travel to China to teach the Chinese better ways of teaching students. She joined a group known as E. L. I. C. (English

Language Institute in China). Judy spent several summers in China in places like the oilfields of Wuhan, Beijing, and Shanghai. Judy’s last summer in China, 2008, was spent working in the Langfang area where she visited the Shepherd’s Field Children’s Village orphanage for vulnerable children who were abandoned by their families. When she returned, Judy and Marshal found it a joy to support that orphanage.

Judy and Marshal served several terms as deacons in their church of 42 years, Westminster Presbyterian Church of San Jose.

Well done good and faithful servant!

At this time, no formal service or memorial is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Shepherd’s Field Children’s Village of the Philip Hayden Foundation, 40335 Winchester Rd. #E-115 Temecula, CA 92591
