SAN DIEGO — Hazel Ellen (Suggs) Iverson passed away at home on February 23, surrounded by her loving family. Hazel was born Christmas Day, 1926 to Garland and Ellen Suggs. Her father was in the Navy and the family lived in many places in her young life. She came to San Diego as a young teen and attended San Diego High School where she met her future husband, Norman Iverson. She was a popular girl and made many friends, some of which she remained close to her entire life.

Hazel and Norman were married after World War II and began a family. They are survived by their three children: Lorraine Iverson, Lynnette Mauzy and Dan Iverson. They are also survived by nine grandchild­ren,15 great grandchild­ren and seven great-great grandchild­ren.

The Iverson family purchased a home in a new developmen­t, Allied Gardens, in the 1950s, where Hazel and Norman both lived the rest of their lives. (He passed in 1998)

Hazel was a stay-athome housewife and mother. She was very involved in the Allied Gardens Women’s Club for many years and served as President at one time.

After her kids were older she went to work selling cosmetics at several local department stores, among them Robinson’s, Saks and I.magnin.

Hazel was deeply loved by her large family and many friends. She was kind, generous, out-spoken, inclusive and funny. She was the family matriarch and guide-post. The family is heart broken but knows she is at peace in the arms of God.
