S.D. MAN KILLED IN HEAD-ON CRASH WITH WRONG-WAY DRIVER ON I-8 NEAR ALPINE

A 59-year-old San Diego man was killed early Saturday morning on Interstate 8 near Alpine, when his vehicle was struck headon by a wrong-way driver who was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, officials said.

The San Diego man, whose name has not been released, was driving a blue Honda CR-V westbound on I-8 just west of Dunbar Lane at 2:05 a.m. Saturday. At the same time, Guillermo Christian Roblero III, 26, of Alpine was driving a gray Toyota Scion TC heading east in the westbound lanes.

For unknown reasons, Roblero’s Toyota struck the Honda head-on, killing its driver at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Garrow.

Roblero sustained major injuries in the crash and was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment.

He was subsequent­ly arrested on felony charges of driving under the inf luence.

The CHP is investigat­ing the crash and asks anyone with informatio­n to call Garrow at (619) 401-2000.
