Pacific Ridge opens new campus building

Pacific Ridge School recently opened its newest campus facility, an innovation center and library designed by Gensler Architects, HMC Architects, and San Diego’s Architects Mosher Drew, and built by Lusardi Constructi­on. The innovation center, which will serve 620 middle- and upper-school students at the 14.5-acre campus, includes an advanced biotech lab, electronic­s lab, robotics and maker space, classrooms, a student support center and the school’s central library. The biotech lab will enable students to study advanced science and conduct extended-duration experiment­s in molecular biology, genomics and ecological studies. The electronic­s lab will support various tech projects with 3-D printers, a CNC mill machine, a large format laser cutter, and electronic­s soldering and table machinery. The robotics and maker space contains tools, materials and a regulation­size robotics competitio­n space for team practice. Visit pacificrid­ge.org.

DEL MAR District seeks ideas to name new school

The Del Mar Union School District is seeking input on the name for the district’s new school in Pacific Highlands Ranch. Community members can submit ideas for the name to nameoursch­ool@dmusd.org. Ideas will be accepted through Thursday.

Kindergart­en webinars taking place this week

Registrati­on for the 20212022 school year begins Monday for the Del Mar Union School District. Kindergart­en informatio­n webinars are available starting Monday. Children must turn 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in kindergart­en. For a full schedule of webinars and welcome videos for each school, visit dmusd.org/ Page/6510. New student registrati­on also begins Monday at school offices and continues at the school sites through June 11. ESCONDIDO Students receive art scholarshi­ps

The Escondido Art Associatio­n recently presented their 2021 scholarshi­ps at the Artists Gallery, 121 W. Grand Ave. Awards were presented to these young artists: Maya Sorvala, Classical Academy High School, first place, $500; Melody Maxcy, Calvin Christian High School, second place, $250; Isabella Gonzalez, Escondido High School, third place, $150; and honorable mention awards of $50 each to Cambree Garcia, Escondido

High School, and Chloe Kiev, Escondido Charter High School. Winners also received a free two-year membership in the Escondido Art Associatio­n. Judges were local artists Susan Avery Clark and Suzanne Nicolaisen. Award money was again provided through the sponsorshi­p of Design Moe Kitchen & Bath in Escondido.

NORTH COUNTY Teachers invited to apply for grants

North Island Credit Union is inviting all San Diego County teachers who have an innovative class project idea to apply for a credit union grant through its biannual Teacher Grant program. The North Island Credit Union program is available to fulltime teachers in San Diego and Riverside counties or to credit union members teaching in California who are looking to fund special classroom and/or virtual learning opportunit­ies for their students. The project should have clearly defined learning objectives tied to students’ academic needs, display creativity, and benefit a significan­t number of students. OCEANSIDE Applicatio­ns open for King scholarshi­ps

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarshi­p Program is now taking applicatio­ns. The program is sponsored by the city of Oceanside and managed by the city’s Housing Commission. Any graduating high school senior living in Oceanside may apply, regardless of which high school (public or private) the student attends. Scholarshi­p funds come from donations; the program awarded $41,000 to 13 students in 2020, for a total of $907,000 to 356 students since 1993. Applicatio­ns are available from high school scholarshi­p coordinato­rs, the Oceanside Public Library and online. Applicatio­ns are due to school scholarshi­p coordinato­rs the beginning of May. SAN DIEGUITO Applicants sought for Area 5 trustee seat

The San Dieguito Union High School District is seeking applicants to fill the Area 5 vacancy on its Board of Trustees, created when Kristen Gibson resigned March 19. The board approved seeking a provisiona­l appointmen­t to the seat on April 22. Applicatio­ns are available at sduhsd.net. Deadline is 3 p.m. Friday. Interested applicants must be registered voters and residents in Area 5.
