Offer incentives to help countries in need
Re “March border crossings reach 15-year high, data shows” (April 3): One possible solution to the seemingly intractable illegal immigration problem is to reward companies that open factories in Central America, possibly with tax breaks or other incentives. This job-creating initiative would encourage economic development in such countries and thereby reduce emigration from them.
Clothes could be made in El Salvador rather than Bangladesh. Also, the U.S. could sanction countries that violate human rights — e.g., stop importing bananas from Honduras.
