Attempts to suppress voters’ voices must fail
Re “Georgia governor vows a fight after MLB yanks All-star Game” (April 3): Thank you to corporate America for stepping up to the plate. According to the Constitution, the right to vote “shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State.” These state attempts to change the ease of voting most definitely serve to deny and abridge this, our most precious right. No argument from present members of Congress can convince us otherwise.
And the rule of the filibuster ignores the vote of the people. I have been against the filibuster for 40 years regardless of what party holds the majority. As James Madison said, if this rule were enacted, “It would no longer be the majority that would rule: The power would be transferred to the minority.” The filibuster spits on our democracy by suppressing the right of those who win elections to govern. Both voter suppression and the filibuster take away the will of the people.
