N. COUNTY COLLEGES HOLDING GRADUATIONS
North County colleges have scheduled their 2021 graduation ceremonies this month, with Cal State San Marcos celebrating two classes at once.
California State University San Marcos will hold its first commencement ceremonies in two years, honoring the graduating classes of 2021 and 2020. The Class of 2020 graduated last May, but those students will be part of the ceremonies because the 2020 commencement was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The commencement will comprise five ceremonies over several days at Mangrum Track and Field. The schedule: Friday: 9 a.m.: Graduates on Parade. Saturday: 9 a.m., College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; 12:30 p.m., College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences; 4 p.m., College of Humanities, Arts, Behavioral and Social Sciences. May 23: 9 a.m., College of Business Administration; 12:30 p.m., College of Education, Health and Human Services.
Each graduate may bring two guests, and seats will be 6 feet apart, adhering to public health guidelines. Attendees must wear a face covering (mask or face shield) at all times while on campus. Ceremonies will be streamed live at csusm.edu to allow viewing by those unable to attend.
Palomar College will host a Drive-thru Commencement starting at 5 p.m. May 28 at the San Marcos campus. The event will be livestreamed, with students reserving time slots to drive the route. Graduating students must register in advance and sign up for a time slot upon arrival. At 2 p.m., before the in-person drive-thru, a recorded program will be available for students and families. For the drive-thru, students must be in a vehicle, and wear academic regalia and a mask. Students are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and have their immediate household join them in one vehicle through the route. Faculty, staff and administrators will be present along the route to cheer students. Also, a live radio show will run from 2 p.m. through the end of graduation. People can call in with shout-outs to graduates at (760) 7368375. Find the station on AM1320, online at palomarcollegeradio.com, and on the Tunein app (search “KKSM Radio”). Visit bit.ly/3vwjajw.
