SAN DIEGO — Goodbye, Gentle Giant Brian Richard French rests peacefully after taking his final breaths early in the morning on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at the age of 69, surrounded by family.

Born on July 11, 1951, in Ohio, Brian was the second oldest of Robert Nathaniel French and Ramona Vera (Stillwagon). Robert’s Navy service brought the family to Imperial Beach, where they lived three blocks from the surf. Brian graduated from Marian High School in 1969 as a smart, standout athlete with a bright future. Life happened despite other plans, and Brian’s life took many unexpected turns. For the past 19 years he developed a passion for building and repairing computers. He spent his final years in Imperial Beach with his family and friends.

Brian had an inquisitive mind and a gentle soul. He was a beautiful writer and an enthusiastic, albeit meandering, story teller. He loved to laugh and spend time outside with friends and family. He was a gentle giant who gave bear hugs. Brian will be sorely missed.

Brian is survived by his son Nathan (Jenn); brothers Larry, Kevin, and Brett (Bruce); sisters Mary Ellen and Amy; nephew Aaron (Victoria) and his children Alanna, Aaron Jr. & Annasofia; niece Heather (Rob) their son Robbie; niece Jessica; and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Robert Bruce French. Please sign the Guest Book online obituaries.sandiegouniontribune.com
