COUPLE IN DRUNKEN SHOOTOUT

A domestic dispute led to a drunken shootout between a man and woman early Saturday morning at their apartment in Mountain View neighborho­od of San Diego, police said.

San Diego police received a report at 5:22 a.m. of eight shots fired in an apartment on Horizon Street near Catania Street, said Officer Tony Martinez. The witness said he saw his neighbor, a woman, shoot at a man.

When police arrived, the man was gone, Martinez said. The woman, who was uninjured, was in the unit with two firearms.

The woman said she and her boyfriend lived together and they had gotten into a fight, Martinez said. They had both been drinking and ended up shooting at each other.

Martinez said all their shots missed; no one was hurt.

Police seized the two guns they found in the apartment, Martinez said. No one had been arrested as of late Saturday morning, and the investigat­ion was ongoing.

Police chase, arrest vehicle theft suspect

A suspected vehicle thief led San Diego police on a chase Saturday morning through University Heights and was bitten by a police dog during his arrest, an officer said.

Police got a call at 10:18 a.m. from someone who said their vehicle was stolen, Officer Tony Martinez said. The caller said they knew where the vehicle was because they had left their phone in it and it had a tracking feature.

Officers found the vehicle with a driver inside in University Heights, Martinez said. When police tried to pull over the vehicle, it sped away, reaching speeds of about 70 mph as officers pursued it along Washington Street.

Authoritie­s stopped the vehicle using a metal spike strip near the Marine Corps

Depot on West Washington Street near Belleau Woods Avenue, Martinez said. The driver got out and tried to run away. Police used a K-9 to stop him, and the dog bit the suspect.

Authoritie­s took him to the hospital for treatment of a bite wound.

Fire at apartment complex is put out

San Diego city firefighte­rs battled a blaze that broke out at an apartment building in Golden Hill Saturday evening.

Firefighte­rs were called to the building on 30th Street between B and C streets just before 6:30 p.m. The fire affected three units in the structure, according to radio traffic.

The fire was knocked down just before 7 p.m. The cause of the blaze was not known, and there were no reported injuries.
