San Diego Musical Theatre announces return of live shows
San Diego Musical Theatre will get back to live entertainment at the Horton Grand Theatre in August with four weekends of concert dates by musical tribute acts from around the country.
“Piano Men: Generations” will take place Aug. 6 and 7. Father-and-son pianist-singers Terry and Nick Davies perform a tribute show chronicling four decades of music by Billy Joel and Elton John.
ABBAFAB, a tribute act to the 1970s-’80s Swedish pop act ABBA, will play Aug. 13 and 14. “Not Fade Away: Rock ’n’ Roll Reignited,” a tribute act that features the music of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper, runs Aug. 20 and 21. And “Britain’s Finest: The Complete Beatles Experience” will take place Aug. 27 and 28.
SDMT will return to live full-cast theater shows on Oct. 1 with a “pre-professional” production of Jonathan Larson’s “Rent.” And on Nov. 20, the theater will open its annual production of “A Christmas Story.”

Onstage moves back indoors for ‘Sheepdog’
Onstage Playhouse in Chula Vista has announced plans to return to live theater indoors beginning June 4 with Kevin Artigue’s twocharacter drama “Sheepdog.”
The tense drama is about two Cleveland police officers in love, one White and one Black. When the male White officer shoots and kills a Black man in the line of duty, it has a profound effect on his relationship with his girlfriend. James P. Darvas, artistic director for Onstage, said the play is the right way to return to live performance because of its timeliness.
