Arthur R. Savage

SAN DIEGO, CA — Arthur R. Savage, 88, passed away in his sleep on September 13, 2021. A lifelong San Diegan, Art was born to Charles M. and Louise H. Savage and grew up in North Park. He graduated from Hoover High School in 1950.

After attending San Diego State College for the next two years, Art entered the Army. After two years of duty, he finished up at Fort Riley, Kansas, and was honorably discharged in January, 1955. In September of 1955, he met the love of his life, Ruth, at San Diego State. They were married at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in La Mesa in August 1956, and had been married for 65 years.

Art completed his degree at San Diego State in June 1960. In the 1960s he worked as an operations officer at a local branch of Bank of America. In March1970 he left the bank and became self-employed as an accountant and income tax specialist.

In 1973 Art became certified as an Enrolled Agent, licensed to

practice before the Internal Revenue Service. He was president of the San Diego chapter of the California Society of Enrolled Agents in 197576. He worked in the fields of income tax preparatio­n and accounting until he gradually scaled down for retirement in the 2000s. Art was appreciate­d by his clients for his honesty and thoroughne­ss.

Art was always sports oriented and especially loved playing handball and baseball. He won the San Diego Open championsh­ip for handball is 1968. He played senior league softball in the La Mesa League for 25 years.

Art was a volunteer with the RSVP traffic division for 15 years. He was a lifelong blood donor. Art believed that the best we can do is to lead a good life and help others. It’s that spirit of helping others that built up a long and successful tax practition­er business, and it’s that same spirit that won him many friends over the years.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, children William Savage (Karen) and Deanna Slieff (Don), and granddaugh­ter Morgan.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Church 8350 Lake Murray Blvd., San Diego, on October 9, 2021 at 12:00 noon. As an Army veteran, Art’s interment will be at Miramar National Cemetery.
