Two goals diametrically opposed to each other

- Kurt A. Schlegel Carlsbad

Re “Despite Newsom’s call to cut water use, L.A. and San Diego didn’t conserve in July” (Sept. 22): Seriously? Above the fold the governor asks us to reduce water by 15 percent. Below the fold we are informed that not only will there be a huge increase in the sewer fees, but that this increase invites even more people to share our precious water supply (in addition to the seemingly nonstop building of apartments). What an oxymoron.

There has to come a time when taking care of current, longtime residents should come first.

This is no longer a healthy, sustainable growth of our county.

The governor’s proposed water cutback of 15 percent is not in line with the county plan to increase affordable housing for residents. The plan to add more housing in the area just doesn’t make sense. The additional units no matter how water efficient will only increase demand on a limited supply.

We can’t keep inviting new homeowners to an area with no new resources. This also applies to electricity and roads.
