Oktoberfest continues in El Cajon today, next weekend
Enjoy Oktoberfest today and next weekend with the German American Societies of San Diego Inc. at 1017 S. Mollison Ave., El Cajon. This familyfriendly event promotes traditional German culture, including entertainment by Guggenbach-buam, from Baden-württemberg, Germany. Enjoy authentic German food and adult beverages, including German beers on draft, as well as folk dances, games and contests, vendor booths, and the Kids’ Zone. Hours are noon to 9 p.m. today and Oct. 3; 4-10 p.m. Friday and noon to 10 p.m. Saturday. Cost is $15 adults on Fridays and Saturdays, $5 on Sundays. El Cajon schedules Dump Day in October
El Cajon’s second free Community Dump Day will be from 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 9 at Wells Park, 1153 E. Madison Ave. A driver’s license or utility bill will be required to show proof of residence. Residents can drop off appliances, mattresses, furniture, and tree limbs. No debris from contractors, landscapers or commercial businesses; no trucks more than one ton or trailers longer than 8 feet. Chamber’s El Cajon Foodie Fest tickets are on sale
El Cajon is preparing for Foodie Fest, taking place from 4-8 p.m. Oct. 9 at Prescott Promenade, 200 E. Main St. Tickets are on sale at https://bit.ly/3abmvi1. Discounted tickets are $4 for ages 2-12 and $8 for ages 13 to adult. On event day, tickets will be $5 for ages 2-12 and $10 for age 13 to adult. High school ‘Quartermania’ fundraiser set for Oct. 9
The nonprofit Mt. Miguel High School Foundation is hosting Quartermania from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 9 at the high school multi-cultural event center, 8585 Blossom Lane, Spring Valley. Admission is $20, and all proceeds will go toward Mt. Miguel High School special projects. Quartermania is a combination of an auction, a raffle and bingo. Preview shopping at 11 a.m., Quarter Auction from 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., and a light lunch at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale and can be reserved by calling (619) 316-3225 with credit card info or by mail with a check. Otay Water District announces art winners
The Otay Water District recently announced the winners of its annual water conservation art contest. The contests, for grades K-12, asked children to explore the importance of water in the region. Winners in the district (eastern Chula Vista, Bonita, Jamul, Spring Valley, Rancho San Diego, unincorporated areas of El Cajon and La Mesa, and eastern Otay Mesa) were: Middle School, first place, Isabella Blakely, eighth grade, Eastlake Middle School; Grade 4-6, first place, Kristen Beltran, and second place, Ava Hilinski, both in fifth grade at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School; Grades K-3, first place, Pablo Flores, first grade, Wolf Canyon Elementary School, and second place, Elsa Mendoza, first grade, Thurgood Marshall Elementary.
