The Sweetwater Authority water district recently announced the winners of its annual water conservation art contest. The contest, for grades K-12, asked children to explore the importance of water in the region. Winners in the Sweetwater Authority (National City, Bonita and western and central portions of Chula Vista) contest were Pia Curiel, Sydney Shatwell, Mason Rogers, Somai Velasquez and Vida Byers, all from Allen Elementary School. The winners received a Crayola art kit and a Target gift certificate. Winners also received awards from Metropolitan Water District and may be featured in their annual free calendar. Free concert on the Imperial Beach Pier

Imperial Beach hosts a free “Symphony by the Sea” concert at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on the pier, 10 Evergreen Ave. The event highlights the beachfront and the Portwood Pier Plaza, featuring orchestral music in a natural setting. Call (619) 423-8300.
