Guns being exchanged for gift cards
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is holding a “Guns for Gift Cards” swap from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the South Bay Courthouse parking lot, 500 Third Ave., Chula Vista. No questions asked. Turn in a gun and receive a gift card: $100 for handguns, rifles and shotguns; $200 for assault weapons. Weapons must be in working order. Place unloaded weapons in trunk; a deputy will provide instructions. Visit www.sdsheriff.gov.
National City seeks board volunteers
National City is looking for community members to serve on several city boards: Board of Library Trustees, Housing Advisory Committee, Public Art Committee, Traffic Safety Committee, and the Veterans and Military Families Advisory Committee. College asks for redistricting feedback
Southwestern College invites people living within the college’s service area to give feedback in a community survey that will help redesign the college’s governing board, as part of its “Your College, Your Voice” campaign. The board is changing from atlarge representation to representation by district. Sweetwater water district offering rebates

Local students win scholarships
Andrea Orozco, a graduate of Castle Park High School in Chula Vista, and Olivia Barman, a graduate of University City High School in San Diego, were the recent recipients of $1,000 scholarships from Wheelhouse Credit Union. The credit union awarded five Sustainability College Scholarships to local college-bound students who demonstrated leadership, public service, and a desire to make a sustainable difference in their schools and communities.
