Victoria A. Waters
September 22, 1932 - September 29, 2021
NATIONAL CITY, CA — Victoria will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mayor George Waters. She is survived by her son James, daughter-in-law Linda and daughter Sharone Duncan of Alpine. She is also survived by her granddaughters Jennifer Waters and Stephanie Waters Davies and son-inlaw Joseph Davies.
Victoria came to National City with her parents and sister. Her father owned a shoe maker’s shop and Victoria’s mother was a dedicated care giver for Victoria’s grandmother as well as Victoria and her sister Mary.
She was a lifelong resident of National City. Vicky was a graduate of Sweetwater High School (Class of ’51). Her work career included branch manager responsibilities at Liberty Loan, and later after its merger, a manager for Avco Finance.
During the 70s and 80s Vicky and her husband opened two businesses – Consolidated Office Machines and Consolidated Jewelers on the 1400 block of Highland Avenue. During these years Vicky became interested and active in public service and remained so until 2020.
She was active in many clubs and organizations including Board of Directors positions at the Boys and Girls Club, St. Mary Parish and the G.H.W. Nutrition Center. She won a city-wide contest by creating the first (and just recently retired) modern day National City “Orchid” Flag in 1967. Her tireless involvement in the National City Historical Society was instrumental in the restoration of Granger Music Hall and the National City Railroad Depot.
Vicky was a strong leader, loving mother and grandmother, and a kind and generous friend. A funeral mass will be held at St Mary Catholic Church beginning at 10:00am on October 14. All that knew her are welcome to attend. A private grave site service will be scheduled.
