SAN DIEGO, CA — Robert Wendell Eilers, 91, passed away peacefully at home with Marion, his wife of 70 years, and daughter Ann Faber by his side.

Bob was born in Douglas, Nebraska to Gertrude Paulene (Hendricks) and Deark Menen Eilers II. He graduated from Panama High School and Peru State College. At Peru, he was known as “George”, was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball and listed in Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universiti­es. Following graduation, he and Marion D. Pratt were married in Elmwood, Nebraska. They had two daughters, Mirium Lynn Hauschild (Wesley) 9/15/1952 in Omaha, Nebraska and Ann Michelle Faber 1/14/1962 in San Diego, California.

Bob enlisted in the Navy, boot camp in San Diego and Officers Candidate school in Newport, Rhode Island. After completing further education at San Diego State, he began his 30 year engineerin­g career at General Dynamics. Once retired, he and Marion enjoyed yearly European excursions and visits to their Nebraska families.

Rolando United Methodist Church was the center of the Eilers’ spiritual and social life for fifty years. Bob was a man of faith, a gentle giant, a devoted husband, father, grandfathe­r, greatgrand­father and uncle. He loved physics, math, fixing anything, a good book, his church and country.

Bob was preceded in death by his daughter Mirium Hauschild and sister Shirley Baker.

He is survived by his wife Marion, daughter Ann Faber, grandchild­ren Heidi Bernard (Ted), Elicia Hauschild, Brooke Faber, great grandchild­ren Nicholas and Andrew Bernard and son-in-law Wesley Hauschild.
