A free “Lunch and Learn Disaster Preparedness Class” is offered by National City from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday. Register by Thursday to attend. Chula Vista returns to some virtual functions
Because of the rise in COVID-19 cases, Chula Vista’s Development Service Department, which issues permits, reviews plans, provides inspection services and more, is returning to appointments only until at least Friday. Appointments will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday. Schedule appointments at http://ow.ly/ Wx4j50hpces.

Southwestern College holds employment expo
Southwestern College will hold a free virtual Employment Expo from 9 a.m.-noon Friday in preparation for hiring more than 30 full-time faculty members and filling a number of classified and management positions for spring 2022. Attend the expo and learn how to be a successful candidate in the SWC hiring process. The process will be explained so that candidates know what to expect, and how to be noticed when they apply. Spots still open for new Esports program
Spots are still available for National City Esports, a new youth program for 2022, held at Casa de Salud Youth Center, 1408 Harding Ave. The Esports program is a free after-school program for National City residents ages 13-17 that will be open from 3-7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The program offers competitive video gaming and Science-technologyengineering-arts-mathematics (STEAM) activities. Several local teachers recently received funding from North Island Credit Union through its Fall 2021 Teacher Grant program. The credit union provided 10 grants of $500 each to underwrite class projects in San Diego County as part of its commitment to help educators create innovative learning opportunities. The grants will fund a range of programs illustrating the creativity and commitment teachers bring to their classrooms and communities. Local recipients are: Art Banymandhub, Crawford High School, Richard Lavery, John Muir Language Academy, Shirley Miranda, Morse High School, and Jennifer Stanchak, Lafayette Elementary School, all in San Diego; and Robyn Haber, Salt Creek Elementary School, Vanessa Henriquez, Lilian J. Rice Elementary School, Amy Markham, Discovery Charter School, and Cassie Rivaldi, Feaster Charter School, all in Chula Vista.
