SAN DIEGO — Ellsworth Paul (Sandy) Kiser was born at Balboa Naval Hospital. His parents were Ellsworth Kiser, a Chief in the Navy, and Blanche Oswanska Kiser. Sandy’s grandfather was Fred H. Kiser, a famous photographer specializing in the American West. His grandmother,

Nell Blackwood Kiser, hand-colored the glass photographic plates Fred created, resulting in many iconic images of Crater Lake and other famous sites in the American West.

Sandy grew up in Allied Gardens and was an avid baseball player. His father helped set up baseball fields in their neighborhood and was active in Sandy’s baseball play.

Sandy graduated from Hoover High School and enlisted in the Navy after graduation. He served in the Vietnam war and was awarded two bronze stars for bravery.

After leaving the Navy, Sandy became a postman for many years, primarily in Spring Valley and Chula Vista. After leaving the post office, he worked in the health care field for a number of years, ultimately opening his own business providing caregivers to ill seniors.

In later years Sandy pursued his love of baseball by opening the Baseball Card Shop in Casa de Oro.

During this time, he participated in Kids News Day, the Rady Children’s Hospital annual fund raiser. He enjoyed selling the special newspapers while wearing a costume as a clown, pirate, or other character.

Sandy was predeceased by his parents and brothers Mark and Brian. He leaves his wife, Judith Gaudette Lake, brother Richard, and daughters Erika Kiser and Tiffany Hansen. He will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery on January 26 at 1 pm.
