A man was shot during an altercation in the parking lot of a Miramar bar early Saturday and later died, San Diego police said.

Police were called to The Filling Station bar on Miramar Road west of Kearny Villa Road just after 2 a.m., when a man was reportedly shot. The 37-year-old victim was transported to a hospital, where he died several hours later, homicide Lt. Andra Brown told Onscene TV. His name was not released.

Two people possibly involved in the shooting were seeing driving away from the scene in a black car, Brown said.

The bar, which was featured on the TV show “Bar Rescue” and formerly known as the Off Base Bar, is near the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. But “there is no indication that it’s military personnel involved,” Brown said.

Several witnesses apparently left the scene before police arrived, Brown added. She urged anyone with information to call police or contact the anonymous Crime Stoppers tip line at (888) 580-8477.

Man, 19, arrested in robberies, assault

Authorities arrested an Oceanside teenager Friday night on suspicion of robbing about a dozen people at gunpoint the week before at a Coronado park in a spree that left three people injured.

Manuel Sebastian Hernandez, 19, is suspected in the Feb. 12 robberies at Centennial Park and a related attack in which a gunman pistol-whipped a woman near the Coronado Ferry Landing Park, according to Coronado police.

Hernandez was arrested “with the assistance of our federal and local law enforcement partners,” Coronado Police Department officials said in a statement. Police did not say how Hernandez was identified as the suspect or where they arrested him.

Jail records showed he was booked into the downtown San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of 14 felony counts of robbery, a felony charge of assault with a firearm and battery with serious bodily injury, and a misdemeanor count of carrying a loaded firearm in public.

He was being held Friday night without bail.

According to police, the robbery spree a week ago Saturday began around 10:30 p.m. when a gunman approached a couple seated on a bench in Centennial Park and displayed a gun as he demanded they hand over their cellphones and valuables.

The man then robbed another five people at gunpoint on the other side of the park before approaching an eighth victim, a woman, at a nearby parking lot by the ferry landing. He allegedly struck her several times on the head with the weapon.

“As the woman was being assaulted by the suspect, a group of three came across the in-progress assault,” police said. “The suspect then pointed the gun at this group and demanded valuables.”

Around this time, five of the earlier victims approached and wrestled the gun away from the man, who was able to run away and drive off, police said. Two of the people who wrestled the gun from him sustained injuries and were treated by paramedics at the scene, while the woman who was pistol-whipped was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Man shot, killed outside store ID’D

Police on Thursday identified the man who was shot to death by three gunmen this past week outside a Mountain View convenience store as Jimmie Lee Roberts III.

Tuesday’s slaying of the 27-year-old San Diego resident was one of three shootings within 24 hours in the bordering neighborhoods of Mountain View and Mount Hope, according to San Diego police. Homicide detectives are also investigating the slaying of a man found last Sunday evening whose body was dumped near a freeway in Mountain View, though it’s unclear where he was killed.

Roberts and another man were shot about 2:40 p.m. in front of Mike’s Market on Ocean View Boulevard near South 37th Street, according to San Diego police homicide Lt. Andra Brown.

Both victims were standing outside the store when three gunmen walked up to them and opened fire.

Roberts, who was reportedly shot in the head, collapsed to the ground and died at the scene, according to Brown and San Diego fire officials. The other victim, a 54-year-old San Diego man, was grazed by at least one shot and ran away from the scene, but later showed up at a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Brown said Wednesday that investigators are probing potential connections between the homicide and two other recent shootings in the area.
