CARLSBAD — Vaughn passed away peacefully, in her sleep, with family, on January 30th. She was 95 years old.

Vaughn Ceille Fletchall was born in Grant City, Missouri. Upon graduating from high school in 1944, Vaughn, 17 years old, and her two girlfriends, immediately enlisted in the Women’s Air Corps (WAC) to serve in World War II. While they were both stationed in Northern California, Vaughn met John Albrecht, her adoring husband of 62 years.

After WWII, John and Vaughn enrolled at the University of Iowa. They were married in 1948 and became public school teachers in the Inland Empire, where they raised three children: Vicki, John Michael, and Edward Charles.

Together, they retired to the Sixth Green of the Lomas Santa Fe Country Club to play golf. During retirement, Vaughn enjoyed working as a substitute teacher in Del

Mar and Solana Beach. They later moved to La Costa Glen in Carlsbad, where Mom loved to socialize with friends, entertain family, and play Bocce Ball. Vaughn was involved with Honor Flight, the American Diabetes Association, and serving her church.

Vaughn donated her body to the UCSD Medical School Body Donor Program, as did John.

Vaughn’s hospitality, kindheartedness, help and support, and ongoing generosity will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Vaughn is survived by her children: Pam and Edd Albrecht, Vicki and David Turner, and John Michael Albrecht, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren, who loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 2, 2022, at 11AM at the Solana Beach Lutheran Church located at 424 Via del la Valle in Solana Beach, where she was a longtime member.
