LA JOLLA, CA —

Dr. Judith A. Jorgensen (aka Judith A. Crown) passed away on February 28, 2022 at Sunrise Senior Living in La Jolla after a brief illness. She had retired from a 40-year psychiatric practice in La Jolla serving hundreds of patients in a dedicated, nurturing way. As she did not have children of her own, Dr. Jorgensen’s patients were her cherished family. An ovarian cancer survivor of over 10 years, she never missed an appointment with any of her many patients.

Dr. Jorgensen was born in Parris Island, S.C. on August 31, 1941. She graduated from Point Loma High School, earning the Pete Ross award for outstanding Senior in 1959. After graduating from Stanford in 1963, majoring in history and biology, she continued her education at UCLA medical school and earned her MD degree in 1968, specializing in psychiatry. She was married to Dr. Ronald F. Crown, Chief Radiologist at Hillside Hospital, for 26 years until his passing in 1996.

Active in the San Diego Society of Psychiatric Physicians, Dr. Jorgensen was vice-president from 1978 through 1980. She was also a member of the San Diego and CA Medical Societies, serving on various committees as

well as a Fellow for those organizations. She was also an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSD from 1991 to 1996 and often consulted at San Diego City College, UCSD and at SDSU as a Staff Psychiatrist.

Her interests were varied and included season passes to the San Diego Chargers for which she was a devoted Charger “Backer”; an avid movie, stage and concert supporter; life member of ZLAC Rowing Club and a life-long lover of animals, especially Irish Setters, of which she had three sets all named Hillary and Timothy. She hosted many wonderful Thanksgiving and Easter celebrations for her family and friends at her weekend retreat in Pine Valley.

Dr. Jorgensen is survived by her sister, Genie Brown (Frank); nieces Carolyn Krebs (Eric) and Kimberley Tempel (Perry), as well as four grandnephews and one grandniece: Conrad, Zach and Margo Tempel, and Trevor and Colin Krebs. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Margaret Jorgensen.

Services will be held at the Pacific Beach-la Jolla Chapel at 4710 Cass Street on March 15 at 3 p.m., followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation “In Memory of Dr. Judith Jorgensen” to the Humane Society, San Diego Zoological Society or San Diego Hospice.

The family wants to personally thank the staff and caregivers at Sunrise La Jolla and Apreva Hospice for their compassionate and devoted care.
