SAN DIEGO, CA — Founder of Love Bridge Prison Ministries Leaves a Legacy of Action

At a young age, Romie became Dad’s “little preacher girl” and could be found standing on old fruit crates in her home and on street corners telling others about God’s salvation. This ministerial passion has become her legacy.

Romie loved to sing, garden, and cook. Visiting friends and family know her famous tamales, Chile Colorado, and menudo. She also loved to travel, whether to enjoy a Broadway Show in New York, visit Europe, or fulfill her lifelong dream to see the Holy Land of Jerusalem.

As an ordained minister, Romie’s first assignment was that of Facility Chaplain at Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility where she served for eleven years, and the Men’s Facility for three years. Romie was also a Volunteer Chaplain at MCC San Diego and for the CA Federal Facilities. At the time of her passing, Romie served as the Facility Chaplain for the Chula Vista City Jail.

Chaplain Romie’s crowning achievement was the founding of the Love Bridge Prison Ministry in 1989. This program delivers spiritual guidance and education to incarcerated women in San Diego County. Romie was recognized with the Channel 10 “Leadership

Award” in 2015 for this exemplary work.

Romie’s three daughters were a source of great pride. Debbie Trujillo, Darlene Trujillo-lopez, and Benita Martinez married Jorge, Armando, and Anthony. The family grew to include six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Through marriages, her family grew by four more grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Romie shared her home with her youngest brother, Larry. They were close friends and life-long companions.

Romie shared unconditional, boundless love with everyone in her life. She fulfilled a vision of purpose, vigor and passion. A Celebration of Life honoring her legacy is scheduled for March 11th,1 pm at Shadow Mountain Church, El Cajon. For more information visit www. gatheringus.com
