SAN DIEGO — Harry passed peacefully on March 6th after a short illness. He was surrounded by the family he loved. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine (Gerry) and his three children, Steven (Terri), Michael, and Lisa (Lance). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christie, David, Jamie, Matthew, Allie, and Noah, and three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Lily, and Owenall of whom he loved so very dearly.

Harry was born in Saint Albans, Vermont, on July 26, 1930. He was the middle of three children. After graduating from high school in Fairfax, Vermont, he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. After his military service, he attended Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts where he obtained a degree in Math. He then moved to San Diego, where he taught Math at Pacific Beach Junior High School.

After meeting Gerry at an Officer’s Club dance, they married at the La Jolla United Methodist Church in 1960. They were the first couple married in that church. They settled in Pacific Beach, where Harry could walk to work as a math teacher. He went on to complete his master’s degree in Special Education at USIU. He became a special education counselor for the remainder of his career. He retired early enough to travel extensively with his wife and enjoy his grandchildren.

Among Harry’s many interests were tennis, poker and other card games, softball, watching sports on television, coaching little league, and visiting the family camp in Vermont.

Harry was a family man, and his favorite times were spent with family. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, unconditional friendships, unwavering loyalty, and his happiness and sense of peace when with those he loved.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 1:00 at the La Jolla United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the music program of La Jolla United Methodist Church, or to the San Diego Zoo.
