Elizabeth R. Merrill
January 18, 1932 - March 1, 2022
ESCONDIDO, CA — Born in Olympia, Washington, Liz attended Whittier College where she earned a degree in Education and married Brad Merrill.
In 1959, Liz and Brad moved to Escondido where they raised three children. Liz lovingly established a warm and welcoming home filled with lots of family and friends.
Wife of a coach and sportsman, mother to two athletic sons, and grandmother to four active grandchildren, much of Liz’s life was spent enthusiastically cheering from the bleachers.
Liz’s dedication to education, along with her kind and caring nature made her a great Kindergarten teacher. She sincerely enjoyed her 23 years at Central school, where she worked with a close-knit group of dynamic women who became lifelong friends.
Over the past 30 years, Liz was active in PEO and Delta Kappa Gamma, helping to raise money for college scholarships for women and participating in Books for Newborns.
Reading brought
Liz tremendous joy. Appropriately called the “Book Grandma,” she generously gave her favorite books to family and friends. She also loved to send thoughtful cards to everyone for all occasions.
Liz will be deeply missed by daughter, Lisa Nina; son Todd, along with his wife Lisa Anne; grandchildren, Megan, Matthew, Justin and Jenna; greatgrandchildren, Caliana, Avalyn and Wyatt; niece, Glenda Torricelli; and nephew, Terry Reed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brad and son Mark.
In lieu of flowers, hug your children, kiss your parents, contact a long-lost friend and take time to cherish all of those dear to you.
