EL CAJON, CA — Curtis ‘Curt’ Isao Itogawa passed away suddenly at home from a heart attack on March 1,2022, two weeks shy of his 75th birthday. He was born in a Japanese labor camp in Walla Walla, WA in 1947. Curt is survived by his wife Laura, daughter Sara, son David Gull (Amy), grandchildren Hannah and Benjamin Gull, brother Eugene (Jane), and sister Lorene Kimura (Keith) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Curt grew up in Sacramento where he enjoyed fishing and boating. He was in the local Sea Scout Troop. During the Vietnam War, Curt enlisted in the Navy. As a Medical Corpsman he was assigned to warships and was also stationed at the Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. After the war, he returned to Sacramento and worked as an LVN while he attended Sacramento State University until he started his 25-year career with the California Department of Parks and Recreation. He was a State Park Ranger at Folsom Lake and

Big Sur, a Supervising Ranger at Lake Perris, and finished the last 16 years of his career as the Superintendent of Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Recreation Area.

Curt was a talented and accomplished gourmet cook. He and Laura annually hosted huge dinners for family and friends for most of the yearly holidays. Curt loved golfing, camping, and inland fishing, but his greatest passion was deep sea fishing using rods he made himself. His personal best was a 148 pound bluefin tuna and a 150 pound marlin. He took great pleasure in being an active member in the San Diego Rod and Reel Club.

Curt enjoyed the adventures of the open road and the lure of the high sea, but most of all he was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life including lunch will be held Saturday, April 2nd at 11 AM at the El Cajon Elks Lodge, 1400 Washington Ave, El Cajon, CA. Please RSVP at https://www. surveymonkey.com/r/ JGRJS29
