Joy Brunner Frye

June 11, 1935 - March 12, 2022

SAN DIEGO — Joy Brunner Frye passed peacefully at home in Point Loma surrounded by family on March 12, 2022. She was born in Santa Monica California on June 11, 1935 and was raised in Brentwood, Los Angeles, CA.

Joy attended Stanford University where she met Frederick A Frye, Sr. as an undergraduate. They married during Fred’s medical training in Los Angeles and settled in San Diego, where Joy became active in her children’s PTAS, Children’s Hospital as Chairwoman of the Charity Ball, The Junior League of San Diego, La Playa Association, ARCS Foundation San Diego Chapter, and The Wednesday Club. Joy was honored for her community service as a Woman of Dedication by the Salvation Army.

Joy was creative, made many of her children’s clothes, and allowed her children to play with messy crafts on rainy days. She also took her grandchildren on adventures after school including watching a wildfire near Hwy 15. Her love of gardening, bright colors, hummingbirds and creating a beautiful and warm home is cherished by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Barbara Brunner, her brother

Robert F. Brunner and her beloved husband Frederick A. Frye, MD. She is survived by her children - Barbara June Singleterry (Shawn), Frederick A Frye, Jr. (Diane), Christopher A. Frye (Jamie), Robert A. Frye (Steven Naugle), grandchildren - Nolan P. Mooney, Daniel P. Mooney, Jr. (Lindsey), Christopher A. Mooney, Emma June Singleterry, Hannah Joy Frye, James Milton Frye and four great-grandchildren. Joy will be missed by all.
