SAN DIEGO, CA — Longtime Point Loma resident Kathleen ‘Kathy’ Mary Moran died on Good Friday, April 15, 2022. She was the oldest of six children of Richard and Helen Moran.

Kathy was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1945, attended local area schools, including Our Lady of Peace Catholic School, and graduated from Point Loma High School and the University of Portland.

After working at the Library of Congress in Washington, D. C., Kathy returned to San Diego and continued in government service for thirty-one years at the Small Business Administra­tion until her retirement. She took particular pleasure in supplying her office at the SBA with weekly flowers from her mother’s garden in Point Loma.

Following retirement, Kathy loved making quilts for family and friends, and traveling the world, notably for several pilgrimage­s to Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovin­a. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Charles Catholic Church where she attended daily masses and rosary recitation­s, continuing to participat­e by phone during the

pandemic. Kathy was particular­ly grateful for the sense of community that St. Charles provided her.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Helen Moran, and her brother, Thomas. She is survived by her four sisters, Janice Goldfarb (Paul) of Mission Hills, Patricia Jay (Charles) of Homer, Alaska, Eileen Lazar (George) of Point Loma, and Sharon Browning of San Francisco. In addition, Kathy leaves eight nieces and nephews, and seven grandniece­s and nephews, all of whom she was particular­ly fond.

A memorial mass for Kathy is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Point Loma with inurnment to follow at a later date at Mission San Luis Rey, Oceanside, California.
