-

CARLSBAD, CA — Sadly, our loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many, Carrie Dawn Masthay, passed away and went Home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.

Carrie was a lifelong resident of North San Diego county, born in Oceanside, California, on April 29, 1959, to Mauri and Mary Rose Masthay.

By her preteen years, the family had left Oceanside, moved to Carlsbad and Carrie left behind her best friend, Lisa Troxel Destefano. The girls looked forward to summer break when the Marshall Street Synchronized Swimming events were scheduled and they could perform.

Carrie was a very active, vibrant person - a smiling friend to everyone who knew her. She enjoyed playing the piano, skiing, roller skating, golfing, and she was a

April 29, 1959 - April 7, 2022 participating member of the girls’ tennis team in high school. She loved to sing and she sang in the high school choir and the Chamber Singers, her favorite song being Hallelujah Chorus. Carrie’s most favorite activity, and proudly wearing her favorite color, purple, was being a cheerleader for three years at Carlsbad High School, from where she graduated in 1977.

Following graduation, Carrie enjoyed singing at friends’ weddings accompanied by her

brother, Mark, on guitar.

Before enrolling in business college in San Diego, Carrie and two girlfriends, Annette Spano and Renee Paul Jacinto, traveled to Europe making stops in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. Exciting attractions included climbing the Tower of Pisa, visiting the Eiffel Tower, the Vatican, the Colosseum in Rome, the gazebo in the motion picture, “The Sound of Music,” and the concentration camp at Dachau.

Following business college her initial employers were lawyers. Her employment transitioned to Pacific Bell Telephone Company where she worked for 29 years as an office specialist at several locations in the county.

A favorite past-time was sending greeting cards, with handwritten messages perfect for the occasion, to family and friends. Carrie loved her cats, Natasha and Olivia.

Carrie is survived by her parents, brother, Mark, and his wife, Jeanie, nephews, Tom (Angie), Tim (Amanda), Ted (Bekah), Tad, Tyler, and niece, Tara. Carrie was a loving, great-aunt to Ben, Bryce, Emory, Paxton, Darcy, Mina, and Marko.

Carrie was the embodiment of pure joy and will be missed by the many lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held at the Carlsbad Community Church in Carlsbad on April 29, 2022 at 11am with a reception following.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memory of Carrie Masthay to:

Carlsbad Community Church, 3175 Harding Street, Carlsbad, CA 92008.
