Those who really paid attention know Trump

Master plan needed to help homeless people

Re “Midway project should address homelessness” (April 19): The ineffective compassionate approach toward our homeless population is a failed policy and has been clearly unsuccessful in removing people from our streets. In his letter, the writer finally solves this problem.

His suggestion to use the Sports Arena site to include a mental health building, an addiction treatment center, housing-first apartments and a job-training center is the complete solution. The mentally ill and drug addicted will get help and the remainder can be trained for a good-paying job.

For the remaining homeless who are neither mentally ill nor drug addicted and are unwilling to accept job training, the answer is to locate their nearest relatives living in a stable environment, either in San Diego County or throughout the country, and transport them there for help from family members.

Ensure project really addresses problem

San Diego County is ranked as the 13th most impoverished region in America.

San Diego is entering into another bad deal

Re “San Diego OKS sale of Tailgate Park to Padres development team for $1.5B residential project” (April 19): The property has an appraised value of $76 million. A $42 million credit considered a gift to the Padres?

Here we go again. Do we have the right people at the City Council capable of making such a decision? What is their background in real estate, appraised value analysis, project finances and cost management? What safeguards do we have that costs will not escalate? Please bring in some experts to help the city decide if this is a good deal since it does not sound right. It is our money.

Air show sends a message of strength

Re “Air show sets a bad example for our kids” (April 21): Regarding the comment about the Miramar Air Show, I suppose there will always be someone who views everything through the prism of

their own particular political persuasions. As a former Marine and Vietnam veteran, I can guarantee that no one is teaching or has ever taught children that “weapons are fun.”

The Marines, as well as every other branch of the service, hold similar demonstrations. They are graphic illustrations that we are all prepared as a front-line defense of the American way of life and a sure and certain guarantee that our people will never face the horrors suffered by the Ukrainian people.

Yes, and for the defense of people like the letter writer, to assure their right to make moral pronouncements about which they obviously know so very little. Instead of a sign at the Miramar gate, how about a sign on the writer’s front door “Caution — moral judgments ahead”?

Nation needs more leaders like Trump

Re “Putin wing of the GOP endangers America” (April 17): I am so tired of these letters to the editor filled with negative imputations about President Trump. Trump was the best thing to hit the White House since Abraham Lincoln.

A constitutionalist, a patriot, a man of direct

words, generous to a fault, defender of our borders, champion of capitalism and a standard-bearer of truth, justice and the American Way. People should get down on their knees and pray that we might have more like him to send to Washington, D.C.

Re “Some would prefer Trump was in command” (April 16): The writer asks how a previous writer knows Donald Trump is “a deeply flawed and a horrible person.” So here are just a few examples since I only have 150 words.

Among his many stunning insults, Trump mocked a reporter at a rally for being disabled. He’s bragged about molesting women. He separated thousands of small children from their parents at the border with no plan to reunite them and hundreds are still not reunited.

Trump has lied (The Washington Post’s factchecker found 30,573 lies during his presidency) about everything from the size of his inauguration crowd to his claim of winning the 2020 election. He withheld nearly $400 million in aid to Ukraine because President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wouldn’t advance his political agenda (and he got impeached for it).

Ultimately what’s truly horrible is that people excuse these behaviors.
