She was born in Bad Homburg, Germany, the daughter of Martha and Adalbert Zobel. She followed her artistic aptitude and studied art at a local art college in Stockholm, Sweden. After several years in Sweden, she moved to the United States with a good friend and settled in San Diego.

In 1990, she met Donald at the Lake Murray Tennis Club. They enjoyed traveling together and their favorites places include Palm Springs and Idyllwild.

Monika cherished being a mother, Oma and wife. She was very caring, loving, helpful, thoughtful, and a great listener. She kept a busy social life and enjoyed spending time with her friends; so many were lifelong friendships.

As a career, she opened her ceramic studio in San Diego. Later, she decided to go back to school and she obtained a degree in technical drawing. She was immediately hired by General Dynamics where she worked for many years, drawing parts for the Space Shuttle.
