MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS SCHEDULED THROUGHOUT SAN DIEGO COUNTY

Memorial Day ceremonies are back in person throughout the county with some virtual observance­s. Here are some events to remember and honor fallen U.S. service members:

CORONADO

Services start at 10 a.m. Monday at Star Park, 1030 Park Place. There is a Memorial Wall at VFW Post 2422 at 557 Orange Ave., where families can honor veterans on bronze plaques. Call (619) 435-6917.

CHULA VISTA

Community members can visit the city’s Memorial Park, 373 Park Way, and see the monument inscribed with the names of Chula Vista residents who have died in war, or Veterans Park, 785 E. Palomar St., which includes a “Walk of Honor” walkway paved with bricks inscribed with the names of veterans. Visit www.chulavista­ca.gov.

DEL MAR

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will hold its annual Memorial Day service rememberin­g the fallen at 11 a.m. Monday at 334 14th St. The service of hymns and prayer will be followed by a Memorial Roll Call of armed services members who died in active duty. EL CAJON

The El Cajon Elks Lodge 1812 holds a patio party from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday at the lodge, 1400 E. Washington Ave. Visit bit.ly/elcajon-elks.

ESCONDIDO

Ceremony and barbecue: A ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 2640 Glenridge Road. Highlights include posting of colors, singing of national anthem and Pledge of Allegiance led by Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, bugler and speaker along with recognitio­n of fallen service members buried at the cemetery. A barbecue follows at the Veterans Memorial Building/american Legion Post 149 at 230 E. Park Ave. Call (760) 745-1159.

FALLBROOK

A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Masonic Cemetery, 1177 Santa Margarita Drive, followed by lunch at noon at Fallbrook Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1924, at 1175 Old Stage Road. Visit fallbrookv­fw.org.

JULIAN

A memorial observance will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday at Julian Pioneer Cemetery, A Street at Farmer Road, weather permitting. A potluck will follow at American Legion Post 468 at 2503 Washington St. Call (760) 765-0126.

NATIONAL CITY

A ceremony is at 4 p.m. Monday at the National City War Memorial and Veterans Wall of Honor, 12th Street and D Avenue. Visit www.nationalci­tyca.gov.

OCEANSIDE

The Veterans Associatio­n of North County hosts a ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday in the VANC Resource Center, 1617 Mission Ave. Lunch will be served after the program. The guest speaker is Brig. Gen. Eternal Hills Memorial Park holds its annual remembranc­e at 11 a.m. Monday at 1999 El Camino Real. The program includes a commemorat­ive bell toll to honor fallen heroes. The ceremony will close with a benedictio­n followed by a white dove release. A free lunch will be offered. Call (760) 754-6600

The Mission San Luis Rey Parish will hold Masses at 8 a.m. Monday in the parish chapel and noon in the Historic Mission Church, 4050 Mission Ave. All are welcome. Visit sanluisrey­parish.org or call (760) 757-3250.

Members of the Santa Margarita Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, ask the community to take time at 3 p.m. Monday to participat­e in a national moment of remembranc­e.

Bugles Across America is partnering with Stater Bros. Markets to host a bugler to play taps after a moment of silence at 3 p.m. Monday at some Stater Bros. stores. Sites include 3770 Mission Ave. and 2170 Vista Way in Oceanside.

RAMONA

VFW Post 3783 will hold a ceremony at 10 a.m. Monday at Nuevo Memory Gardens, 532 Ash St. Call (760) 789-7888.

RANCHO BERNARDO

A ceremony at the Rancho Bernardo Veterans Memorial begins at 10:45 a.m. Monday at Webb Park, 11666 Avena Place. Participan­ts include members of Major Abraham J. Baum Post 7766, Veterans of Foreign Wars; members of Brigadier Gen. J.P. Holland Chapter, Military Order of World Wars; Scouts from BSA Troop 685; Rancho Bernardo High School Madrigals Choir; Westview High School NJROTC; trumpet soloist Oliver Jones, Rancho Bernardo High School Band, and keynote speaker San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit. The Rancho Bernardo Historical Society hosts its 15th annual Pancake Festival honoring the military from 8 a.m. to noon Monday outdoors at Webb Park with live music, adjacent to the Veterans Memorial, thanks to Los Rancheros Kiwanis Club. SAN DIEGO

The Mount Soledad National Veterans Memorial will honor the nation’s heroes in a live and online tribute event from 11 a.m. to noon Monday. It will be streamed live from Mount Soledad, 6905 La Jolla Scenic Drive, at memorialda­ylive.com. The event will particular­ly honor Marine Maj. Megan Mcclung, killed in the Iraq War. The commemorat­ion will be hosted by former news anchor Marc Bailey and will feature Marine Band San Diego, a wreath laying, and a missing-man flyover. Visit soledadmem­orial.org.

The Miramar National Cemetery Support Foundation hosts a 20-minute online Memorial Day presentati­on commemorat­ing the 80th anniversar­y of the Battle of Midway. The guest speakers are retired Navy Rear Adm. John “Mac” Mclaughlin, president and CEO of the USS Midway Museum, along with Navy veteran Tony Teravainen, CEO and co-founder of Support the Enlisted Project (STEP). There will be no live service at the cemetery this year. The presentati­on is available at miramarcem­etery.org.

As part of the USS Midway Museum’s annual Legacy Week lineup, there will be patriotic music by the ensemble of U.S. Coast Guard Arizona Band at 11 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Monday (included in regular museum admission).

Meet former military aviators and planes they flew today.

• An in-person commemorat­ion ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Monday, streamed via Facebook Live. The event will include guest speakers, taps and tossing of wreath over the ship along with a missing-man flyover and parachute jump.

• A moment of silence will be observed at 3 p.m. Monday on the flight deck to honor those who have fallen while serving in the military.

• A blood drive is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday on Navy Pier (in the Ace parking lot), 910 N. Harbor Drive. Donors receive a free pass to the USS Midway Museum, while supplies last.

San Diego Veterans For Peace will set up its “Hometown Arlington West Memorial” from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday on the front lawn of the USS Midway Museum, 910 N. Harbor Drive. Chapter veterans from five service branches will honor several hundred comrades from Southern California who have died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanista­n. There will be memorial markers and the public is asked to stop by, read their names and reflect on their sacrifice. Visit sdvfp.org.

Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery hosts a Memorial Service and Day of Remembranc­e online at 10 a.m. Monday at fortrosecr­ansmemoria­lday.com.

A Celebratio­n of Veterans starts at 11 a.m. Monday at the Logan Heights Veterans Memorial Monument, 1900 block of Logan Avenue across from Chicano Park. The program includes prayers, speakers and reading of names of past veterans, along with food available from Don Diego VFW and music.

SAN MARCOS

VFW Post 3795 will host a ceremony with patriotic music, color guard and speakers at 10 a.m. Monday at San Marcos Cemetery, 1021 Mulberry Drive. Barbecue lunch will be served afterward at the post, 212 W. Mission Road. Call (760) 744-3795.

The 17th annual Memorial Day “Hoist” is at 5:45 p.m. Monday at Churchill’s Pub & Grill, 887 W. San Marcos Blvd. Highlights include mounting of colors, taps and speakers. World War II Marine veteran Sid Zimman, 98, will be honored. Visit fb.me/ e/37qnm3iov and thehoist.org.

SOLANA BEACH

A ceremony with a dove release will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday in the Veterans Honor Courtyard at the La Colonia Community Center, 715 Valley Ave. Camp Pendleton Young Marines Color Guard will serve. The Santa Fe Christian School Band will perform patriotic songs. The Veterans Memorial wall honoring Solana Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars can be viewed. Call (858) 720-2453.

VISTA

The VFW Post 7041 and American Legion Post 365 will hold a Day of Honor event starting at noon Monday with food offered at American Legion, 1234 S. Santa Fe Ave. A drawing will be at 3 p.m. There will not be a ceremony at the Civic Center this year. Visit facebook.com/americanle­gion365.
