John ‘Jack’ Joseph Scott
SAN DIEGO, CA — John “Jack” Joseph Scott, US Navy Veteran passed away of natural causes on May 4, 2022.
Jack was born of November 27, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA. When he was in high school, WWII erupted. He studied Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. He enlisted in the United States Navy on April 1, 1943 where he served as an Electrician’s Mate – 1st Class.. He served on the USS Malloy (DE791), a Destroyer Escort and helped assist with the Allied landing at Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-day. He also served on the USS Hanson (DDR832). During his eleven-year service in the Navy, he was awarded the Korean Service Medal (7 Stars), United Nations Service

After his service in the US Navy, Jack moved to San Diego and was an electrician for over 20 years where he retired from General Dynamics Aeronautics / Convair (San Diego).
Jack also owned six liquor stores with his
business partner and long-time friend, Eugene C. Walsh. They owned stores in Hillcrest, San Diego, and La Mesa in the 1960’s, which was incorporated under the name of Pump Handle Corporation.
Jack joined Kiwanis (Grantville Allied Gardens), where he was Club President (1987-88), SDSU Circle K Club Advisor during much of the 1970’s and 1980s.
In 2005, Jack became a volunteer onboard the USS Midway Museum at the San Diego Embarcadero where he acted as a Docent, accumulating an outstanding 16,280 hours of volunteer time, most of his hours in Engine Room 3. Jack met people from round the world whom he kept in touch with over the years.
There will be a public military memorial service at Miramar National Cemetery located at 5795 Nobel Drive, San Diego, CA on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. All friends and those that would like to pay tribute to Jack are welcomed.
A celebration of his life will be held on the USS Midway Museum on June 22, 2022 at 0900 hrs. Followed by a reception on the USS Midway, Elevator 3.
Jack will always be remembered as a “giver”, donating his time to so many of his friends, Kiwanis, Circle K, and the USS Midway……fair Winds & Following Seas our dear friend.
