San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society hosts annual show at Balboa Park
Ready to learn more about your favorite hard-shell reptiles? The San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society is holding its annual Turtle, Tortoise and Exotic Plant Show on July 23 and 24 at Balboa Park.
The free event will feature:
• Turtles and tortoises on exhibit from around the world
• Turtles and tortoises available for adoption
• More than 400 plants for sale, including many exotic varieties
• Unique turtle and tortoise-themed clothing, jewelry and accessories
The San Diego Turtle & Tortoise Society is an all-volunteer nonprofit rescue organization that was founded more than 50 years ago. Since then, the society has rescued, rehabilitated and adopted out hundreds of turtles and tortoises.
The society is one of the largest rescue societies of its kind in the United States with over 600 current members. Its mission includes fostering and adopt out relinquished turtles and tortoises to safe and suitable homes; educating the public in the proper care of turtles and tortoises; promoting conservation; and studying all chelonians. The society does not encourage the sale of chelonians or removing them from their natural habitat.
Every year, the society presents educational exhibits at many local events and hosts the annual San Diego Turtle, Tortoise and Exotic Plant Show. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 23, and 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, July 24, in the park’s Casa Del Prado Building, Room 101.
