SAN MARCOS, CA — Robert Dennis Wiley III was born on July 5, 1970, in Subic Bay, Philippines, and passed away on July 31, 2022, in San Marcos, California.

Robert Wiley joined the United States Navy in 1988. As a West Coast sailor, he was stationed in San Diego, California, and Bremerton, Washington, as well as served time in the Middle East during Operation Desert Storm. He served his country as a Weapons Technician, and for his duty, he was honorably discharged in 1994. He went on to study Business and Philosophy at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. There, he met his future wife, Osmara Cobian Wiley, and started a new chapter of his life in San Diego County.

Robert leaves a memory to cherish. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years and his two sons, Owen Wiley and Patrick Rumble. Robert was a supportive brother to his sister, Jane Boyle, and her husband, Benjamin Boyle. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, Omar Gonzalez, Eric, William, and Eddie Cobian; mother-in-law, Rita Nunez; and very close friends who called him brother for over 35+ years.

His friends and family will miss his random rants, humor and banter, intelligence and wisdom, and ability to write with finesse. He was an avid martial artist, guitar virtuoso, expert grill chef, and excellent cat tamer. Everyone who knew him will miss our grumpy teddy bear.

Faith, courage, service true, with honor, over honor, over all. Fair winds and following seas, Robert, your family has the watch.

The funeral service is scheduled for 3:30 pm on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any animal shelter or veteran charity of your choice in his honor.
