New marketing lead at MCASD; more career news
Arturo Garcia-sierra is the new manager of marketing and communications for the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD).
The world-class museum is entering a new era following the $110 million renovation of its flagship campus in La Jolla.
The project added four times the gallery space to the site and maximized the expansive ocean views.
MCASD also has a location in downtown San Diego in the Jacobs Building.
Garcia-sierra hit the ground running when he stepped into the post Aug. 1, after previously serving as marketing and communications manager for the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego.
Most exciting thing about his new role: “MCASD is a must-see destination, with its views of the Pacific guiding people through the galleries. I now have the privilege to tell the stories of its artists, patrons, community and the wonderful staff making all the magic happen.”
Something he’s learned about himself in the past year: “I learned to make intentional time for friends, family and myself. I had developed this need to always be connected, which meant constantly looking at my phone. I think we all know we need to cut that out and be present for the folks right in front of us and for ourselves.”
One piece of career advice for others: “Find a good mentor or a couple of good mentors. Mine happened to be the best out there: Mia Bolton, Jamie Hampton, Gladys Hernandez and Hailey Bossert with Mixte Communications. I’m here because of them.”
