NEW COUNTY COUNSEL TO TAKE THE REINS THIS MONTH

Tran, a former deputy counsel, has served in Napa for last five years

A former county attorney is slated to serve as chief counsel for Riverside County government, starting at the end of the month.

The Board of Supervisors on Aug. 2 selected Minh Tran as the new head of the Office of County Counsel, but his formal confirmation is not until Aug. 30.

“Minh is an exceptional leader with discerning judgment and strong legal acumen,” board Chair Jeff Hewitt said. “I look forward to working with Minh to continue finding innovative solutions for Riverside County residents.”

Tran will be stepping into the slot left vacant by the abrupt retirement of former Chief Counsel Greg Priamos, who exited earlier this year after nearly eight years on the job.

According to the Executive Office, over the previous five years, Tran has worked as the county attorney for Napa County, where he has also served as chief executive officer.

His total time in government exceeds two decades, including 10 years as a deputy county counsel for Riverside County.

“I am honored to serve in this new capacity with the county,” Tran said. “Returning to Riverside County is exciting, both professionally and personally, and I look forward to joining a team dedicated to driving the county forward.”

The Office of County Counsel represents the county in some civil litigation and handles matters connected to human resources, child welfare, land use, election integrity and taxes. The chief counsel is further responsible for providing legal advice to the board and offering guidance on public administration protocols during meetings.

Tran’s annual salary will be $285,000.
