January 2, 1999 — Born in the birthplace of many major leaguers, San Pedro de Marcoris, Dominican Republic, about three months before his father, Fernando Tatis, made history with two grand slams in one inning for the St. Louis Cardinals.

July 2, 2015 — Signed as an amateur free agent by the Chicago White Sox at age 16.

June 4, 2016 — Traded to the Padres along with pitcher Erik Johnson for starting pitcher James Shields.

2017 — Between Single-a and Double-a, Tatis hit 22 homers and stole 32 bases with an .877 OPS and was rated as high as the No. 8 prospect in baseball entering 2018.

2018 — After 88 games at Double-a, Tatis is the No. 2 prospect in baseball entering 2019.

March 28, 2019 — His major league debut, including a single off Madison Bumgarner in his first at-bat and a 2-for-3 hitting performanc­e in the Padres’ 2-0 win over the Giants.

April 1, 2019 — His first career homer, a two-run shot off Arizona right-hander Merrill Kelly and driving in Manny Machado in the sixth inning of a 10-3 loss.

April 28, 2019 — Tatis suffers a strained left hamstring sustained while stretching at second base to field an errant throw by pitcher Matt Wisler.

Aug. 13, 2019 — Tatis is removed from a game in the middle of an at-bat and misses the rest of the season with a stress reaction in his lower back. He finishes his rookie year batting .317/.379/.590 and 22 home runs in 372 at-bats.

Nov. 12, 2020 — Tatis finishes fourth in National League MVP voting, one spot behind Machado, after hitting .277/.366/.571 in the Covid-shortened season. He hit 17 homers in 224 at-bats as the Padres made the postseason for the first time since 2006.

Feb. 1, 2021 — At 22, Tatis is the youngest athlete ever chosen as the cover athlete for the “MLB The Show 21” video game.

Feb. 17, 2021 — Tatis and the Padres agree to a 14-year, $340 million contract. It was the largest contract ever awarded to a player not yet eligible for arbitratio­n and at the time was the third-richest deal in MLB history. The deal has a no-trade clause through 2028.

March 23, 2021 — Tatis leaves a spring training game with a left shoulder injury after reaching across his body to field a ground ball. The shoulder popped out of its socket, the second time it happened that month.

April 5, 2021 — Tatis crumples to the ground and is helped off the field with a partially dislocated shoulder. It was revealed he had a partially torn labrum and the belief was he would need surgery at some point.

April 23, 2021 — On the 22nd anniversar­y of the night his father hit two grand slams at Dodger Stadium, Tatis homers twice off Clayton Kershaw. He would also hit two home runs the next night and the day after that.

May 10, 2021 — Tatis goes on the COVID-IL.

July 13, 2021 — Tatis starts at shortstop for the NL in his first All-star Game. He went 0-for-2. July 30, 2021 — Tatis is helped off the field after jamming his shoulder on a slide into third base.

Aug. 15, 2021 — After missing 13 games, Tatis doubles in his first at-bat and homers in his next two in an 8-2 victory over Arizona.

Oct. 18, 2021 — It is revealed that Tatis will forego the surgery most, including many with the Padres, expected him to have.

Nov. 11, 2021 — Tatis finishes third in NL MVP voting after leading the league with 42 homers and hitting .282/.364/.611.

Dec. 8, 2021 — Tatis is reported to have been in a motorcycle accident that multiple people close to him said was “minor.” Those people said he had resumed baseball activity shortly after the accident, something the Padres confirmed. However, as the team would find out after the MLB lockout ended, that was not the extent of the story.

March 14, 2022 — On the first day of spring training, the team announces that a precamp physical revealed a fractured scaphoid bone in Tatis’ left wrist. He is expected to miss at least three months following surgery, which occurs two days later.

Aug. 5, 2022 — Tatis departs Dodger Stadium following a live batting practice session and heads for the airport for a flight to San Antonio, beginning a rehab assignment the next day. He plays in four games.

Aug. 12, 2022 (Friday) — Tatis is suspended 80 games for using Clostebol, which is banned by MLB as a performanc­e enhancing substance.

May 1, 2023 — Approximat­e date Tatis can return from the suspension. He’ll be 24 years, 119 days old on that date. When he last played in a major league game, he was 22 years, 275 days.
